Obituary for Alice Siwicki (Connell)

Alice Siwicki (Connell)
Alice Connell Siwicki, 95, passed to her eternal reward on November 23, 2016. She was born to the late James William and Martha Glenn Connell on February 5, 1921. A lifelong resident of Bourbon County and a lifelong member of the Catholic Church of the Annunciation, what mattered most to her were her faith, family and friends. She was a proud alumna of St. Mary School, Paris High School and the University of Kentucky, where she majored in home economics in the College of Agriculture. She was preceded in death by her beloved siblings: Mary, Thomas, Martha, Mabel and James and her husband for 50 years, the late Thomas A. Siwicki, Sr. A stay-at-home mother, she devoted her life to her family and to the support of her husband’s career as a teacher and music educator for band and chorus first at Millersburg Military Institute and then for almost 30 years at Paris High School. It’s no secret that a key ingredient to the success of her husband’s career was attributed to her unwavering support. She generously served in such roles as chaperone, seamstress, cook and counselor on the many trips and activities of the musical groups throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. She was active in the Altar Society, Bluegrass Garden Club, Hopewell Homemakers, Paris Band Boosters and Paris Lioness Club. She is survived by her three children: Martha (Dudley) Simpson, Bowling Green; Thomas A. Siwicki, Jr., Paris, and Br. James Connell Siwicki, S.J., of Berkeley, CA. She is also survived by grandchildren Bryan (Heidi) Simpson, Bowling Green, and Laura (Chad) Goodman, also of Bowling Green, and great-grandchildren Mason, Hallie Jo and Tate Simpson and Cooper Goodman. Despite progressive dementia in her later years, she maintained her gentle and loving spirit and a quiet sense of humor. Visitation will be held at Hinton-Turner Funeral Home in Paris on Tuesday, Nov. 29 from 5 to 8 p.m., with the rosary at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Catholic Church of the Annunciation in Paris on Wednesday, Nov. 30, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Paris. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests gifts to the Church of the Annunciation (choir or school) or to the Stanley Walker Grubbs/Thomas A. Siwicki Memorial Scholarship Fund through the Paris High School Music Department.
