Obituary for Ellen Genevieve Brannon (Sullivan)

Ellen Genevieve  Brannon (Sullivan)
Genevieve was born Ellen Genevieve Sullivan on January 21, 1927, the daughter of the late Daniel Paul and Emma Gilbert Sullivan at their residence on Link Avenue.

She is the widow of Larry Bernard Brannon who predeceased her in 1991.

Genevieve attended St. Mary School, Bethlehem High School Academy near Elizabethtown and Mount Saint Joseph Junior College near Owensboro.

She and Larry were married in August 1949.

She is survived by adopted grandson John David Lann; three children: Rebecca Brannon (Wendell Paige) Lawyer, Beverly Catherine Brannon and James Paul (Denise) Brannon; grandchildren Aaron (Ginger) Lawyer, Nathaniel (Molly) Lawyer, Rachael (Brad) Kowalski, Jessie (Albert Leong) Lawyer, Robbie (Dena) Wagoner, Laura (Matt) Stigall, Tommy (Ashley Barlow) Cope, Sarah Brannon, Keli Tucker and eleven great grandchildren with another on the way. Survivors also include many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Suzanne Brannon Lann and grandson James Patrick Brannon; three brothers: Jere Sullivan, Dan Sullivan and Gilbert Sullivan; three sisters: Elizabeth Sullivan, Catherine Sullivan Blotz and Mary Agnes Sullivan Brannock.

Genevieve was employed at the Bourbon County Citizen newspaper since the 1940s and worked there up until a month ago, almost 70 years. She became general manager of the newspapers, The Bourbon County Citizen and Citizen-Advertiser, upon the death of her husband in 1991. Prior to working at the newspaper she worked at the Women’s Exchange and at Lerman Brothers in Paris.

She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow by the Paris Rotary Club.

She was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church.

Casket bearers include Ivan Rice, Billy Reed, Henry Kenney, Dwight Badget, Wayne Brown and Tom Brannock. Honorary bearers will be Jerry Allen, Eddie Woods, Trish Hunter, Dennis Vance, William Cunningham, Don Menke, and her grandchildren.

She thanks special caretakers Cathy Cassity and Trish Holman Hunter for their friendship and care over the last few years as well as the children of St. Mary School, her next door neighbors.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 13, at the Catholic Church of the Annunciation with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Hinton-Turner Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Patrick Brannon Memorial Dog Park or one’s favorite charity.
