Obituary for Jerry Wayne Ormes

Jerry Wayne Ormes
Jerry Wayne Ormes, of Paris, KY was born July 14, 1940 (age 77) and went to his Lord January 20, 1918. He was the beloved husband of Barbara Myers Ormes for 57 years. Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Michael Wayne (Victoria) Ormes, Seattle, WA: a daughter, Denise Ann Ormes, Paris, KY. He was lovingly called Poppie by his grandchildren: Kasandra (Elijah) Ormes Curtis, Justin Ormes, Kelsey (Phillip) Ormes; and great grandchildren: Zander Ormes-Henderson, Gabriel Ormes, Landon Acree, Reiley Ormes, and Paxton Campbell; sister Patsy (Richard) Hamilton and Step brother, Jimmy Worthington; brother in law, Chester James Myers; sister in law, Martha Jean (Price) Myers Flannery. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mable Humphries Ormes Worthington; father, James Ormes; step father, Joe Worthington; and step sister, Barbara Worthington Robinette. Jerry was a manager at and retired from IBM and Parker-Hannifin and was a gunsmith for Bud Wells after graduating from the “Modern Gun Repair School” with a master course. He was proficient in modern guns and muzzleloaders. He graduated from Paris High School in 1959 and was lucky to call many of his classmates friends. He received a degree in business in 1979 from Xavier University and was a member and active at the Paris First United Methodist Church. On April 5th, 1986, Gov. Martha Layne Collins affixed her seal making Jerry officially a member of KENTUCKY CORPS OF LONGRIFLEMEN which is still the Kentucky state militia. Jerry was proud to be a member of the Corps and his association with his fellow members. He and Barb are also lifetime members of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association having worn the tires off several Goldwings. They served in various offices of the association including Chapter “C” Directors. They were grateful to all the members and friends they made through the years. He was a proud member of the Paris Police Academy. He loved camping, hunting, boating, archery, traveling, cruising, building things, and just about everything in life. Jerry was grateful to God, family, friends, and country for the life he enjoyed, and we were lucky to have him in our lives for as long as we did. A memorial service will be held Saturday March 10th at 2pm at the Paris First United Methodist Church in Paris located at the corner of Pleasant and 7th Streets with Rev Mejia officiating. Hinton Turner is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Paris First United Methodist Church. The family would like to thank the paramedics, hospital staff, and everyone for their kindness through this difficult time.
